I love to have people over. I love to hear their stories, to feed them and to enjoy seeing old friends and making new ones. I think I get that from my Mom. From as far back as I can remember, she was always hostessing! She’d set a beautiful table, spend hours making a delicious meal and then entertain like a queen!
I used to do it more…you know, before these little tornadoes came into my life. Believe it or not, once Dan and I cleaned up the house, it stayed clean for awhile…like even hours and days!! Now when we clean, I am lucky to get a few minutes of cleanliness out of the deal before it gets that lovely ‘lived in’ look, once again.
I still love to have people over and if I didn’t have to worry about cleaning my house all the time, I’d do it much more often. Know that when you stop by, you can expect to see dishes in the sink, crumbs on the floor, fingerprints on the windows, and toys on the floor. At various times of the day, things will be cleaner than others, but trust me, I always wish it were cleaner than it is!
I can also guarantee it will be crazy with the boys home for the summer. Yesterday I had a friend from high school visit with her family. I haven’t seen her in at least 20 years!! Do you want to know what one of my darling sons did?? On top of coming up the stairs screaming “butthead and stupid” at the top of his lungs, he also ran naked from his room, through the living room full of guests and back to his room, laughing hysterically. Now that is a way to make an impression! Around here we never quite know how things will play out.
But we’d love to see you and offer you a cup of coffee or tea. We’d love to share our favorite things with you and talk your ear off. We’d love to give you a hug and be so excited to have you here. I recently read this and I like it, “If you are coming to see me, come on over. If you are coming to see my house, make an appointment.”
So, stop by anytime. The coffee (and the mess) are waiting!
