Do you have an early learner? These five games are tried and true and I’ve used them in my tutoring practice, in the Resource Room and with my own kiddos.
- Counting Campers is SUPER fun! It does not require reading at all. Your student just needs to be able to count the objects on a card and move forward/backward that many spaces. 2. CVC word strips. I use these a lot with my early readers. Once they know the sounds the letters make, it’s time to put the words together. I like that these show the size of the letters as that sometimes gives an extra clue, when once is needed. They are dry erase so the kids can correct a mistake quickly and easily. They are also magnetized so if you want to use magnet letters, that works too. The correct answer is on the back so the kiddos can self correct too! You can find them here:

3. If you want to help your student learn their numbers in a super fun way, I have been really enjoying these sticker books! They have adorable pictures of animals and each picture has 20 blocks with the corresponding number. Then there are stickers that are in mixed up order. Your student has to match the correct sticker to the block and a picture magically appears. It’s SOO cool and I’ve had students K-3 who will repeatedly choose these when they have a spare moment. 4. Don’t Break the Ice! This is such a fun game that’s been around forever! I add sight words or equations to my ice blocks. When the students knock them down, they read to me the words or sounds or equations for extra practice. We try to make everything a game so learning is fun! 5. Zingo! We play Zingo a lot! I have a picture edition for beginning learners and a sight word edition for those that are at that stage. It is quick, easy and fun. My students often gravitate towards it and really seem to enjoy it. You can find it here: https://amzn.to/3xGMpEN
